Kyphosis
What is Kyphosis (Humpback)?
It is a disease that occurs when the spine bends forward. Hunchback can occur at birth (Congenital kyphosis) or later. Kyphosis is most commonly seen in the back region as a disease. The upper limit of the normal kyphosis angle in this region is 50 degrees, and when it exceeds this degree, it is referred to as disease-level kyphosis.
Are kyphosis and poor posture the same thing?
No, it is not. Some patients tend to hunch over as a habit. The kyphosis angles of these patients are detected below normal values in their radiographs. Again, these patients can correct their posture whenever they want; however, kyphosis patients cannot correct their posture even if they want to, and their kyphosis angles are above normal values (over 60 degrees) in their radiographs.
