Kyphosis

What is Kyphosis (Humpback)?

It is a disease that occurs when the spine bends forward. Hunchback can occur at birth (Congenital kyphosis) or later. Kyphosis is most commonly seen in the back region as a disease. The upper limit of the normal kyphosis angle in this region is 50 degrees, and when it exceeds this degree, it is referred to as disease-level kyphosis.

My child has kyphosis, what should I do?

First of all, you should consult a spine surgeon and get accurate information. After the necessary physical examination and radiological imaging, the diagnosis and treatment algorithm should be developed.

Are kyphosis and poor posture the same thing?

No, it is not. Some patients tend to hunch over as a habit. The kyphosis angles of these patients are detected below normal values in their radiographs. Again, these patients can correct their posture whenever they want; however, kyphosis patients cannot correct their posture even if they want to, and their kyphosis angles are above normal values (over 60 degrees) in their radiographs.
